03–05 Eylül 2025 tarihlerinde Ankara TAGEM Kampüsü’nde düzenlenen Uluslararası Katılımlı 9. Türkiye Bitki Koruma Kongresi, yaklaşık 400 bilim insanının katılımıyla gerçekleştirildi. Türkiye Entomoloji Derneği, Türkiye Fitopatoloji Derneği, Türkiye Biyolojik Mücadele Derneği ve Türkiye Herboloji Derneği’nin ortak organizasyonu ile düzenlenen kongre, entomoloji, fitopatoloji, biyolojik mücadele ve herboloji alanlarında en güncel bilimsel gelişmelerin paylaşıldığı prestijli bir buluşma oldu.
Direktörümüz Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak, kongrede Patates Böceği ile RNAi Tabanlı Mücadelede Rasyonel Hedef Gen Seçimi başlıklı sunumunu yaparken; ekibimizden lisan öğrencimiz Umut Yeşilyurt, Spodoptera littoralis’te Otofaji Gen İfadesinin Açlık ve Gelişime Bağlı Dinamiği başlıklı çalışmasını sundu. Alperen Coşkun, Patates Böceğinde Yeni Bir Moleküler Hedef: HNF-6 üzerine konuştu. Ahmet Alperen Demir, HNF4 Geninin RNAi ile Susturulması ve Gelişimsel/Fizyolojik Etkileri başlıklı sunumunu yaptı. Gökçe Hasdemir ise Spodoptera littoralis’te Kitin Sentez Geninin RNAi ile Susturulması araştırmasını aktardı. Böylece MOLEN ekibi, toplam 5 sözlü bildiri ile kongrede dikkat çekici bir temsil sağladı.
Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak ayrıca, Syngenta’dan Driekie Fourie (Use of SC Treatments as an Integral Part of IPM) ve UPL’den Halil Köstekli (Bio Çözümler ile Ürün Yönetimi) gibi davetli konuşmacıların yer aldığı Entomoloji Oturumu’na başkanlık ederek uluslararası düzeyde bilimsel tartışmaların yönlendirilmesinde de önemli bir rol üstlendi.
Bu katkılar, MOLEN’in tarımda biyoteknolojik yaklaşımlar, RNAi temelli stratejiler ve sürdürülebilir zararlı yönetimi konularında öncü konumunu pekiştirdi ve kongredeki en güçlü bilimsel odaklardan biri haline getirdi.
MOLEN Made Its Mark at the 9th Turkish Plant Protection Congress with 5 Oral Presentations
The 9th Turkish Plant Protection Congress with International Participation was held on September 3–5, 2025 at the TAGEM Campus in Ankara, bringing together nearly 400 scientists. Organized by the Turkish Entomological Society, Turkish Phytopathological Society, Turkish Biological Control Society, and Turkish Weed Science Society, the congress provided a prestigious platform where the latest developments in entomology, phytopathology, biological control, and weed science were shared.
Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak, Director of MOLEN, delivered a presentation on Rational Target Gene Selection for RNAi-Based Control of the Colorado Potato Beetle. In addition, Umut Yeşilyurt presented his work on Dynamics of Autophagy Gene Expression in Spodoptera littoralis Under Starvation and Developmental Conditions. Alperen Coşkun spoke on A Novel Molecular Target in RNAi-Based Control of Leptinotarsa decemlineata: HNF-6. Ahmet Alperen Demir delivered a presentation on RNAi-Mediated Silencing of the HNF4 Gene in Leptinotarsa decemlineata: Developmental and Physiological Effects. Finally, Selen Gökçe Hasdemir shared her study on RNAi-Based Molecular Control of Spodoptera littoralis: Silencing of the Chitin Synthase Gene. With these contributions, MOLEN participated in the congress with a total of five oral presentations.
Beyond these talks, Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak also chaired the Entomology Session, which featured Driekie Fourie (Syngenta, South Africa) presenting Use of SC Treatments as an Integral Part of IPM and Halil Köstekli (UPL, MECA) with a talk on Bio Solutions and Product Management. By leading this international session, Prof. Toprak played a key role in guiding scientific discussions and connecting academia with industry expertise.
Through its strong scientific presence, MOLEN once again highlighted its pioneering role in biotechnology-based plant protection, RNAi strategies, and sustainable pest management, becoming one of the most visible research groups at the congress.
