Molecular Entomology Laboratory (MOLEN) Direktörümüz Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak, 8 Eylül 2025’te Berlin’de Freie Universität Berlin ev sahipliğinde düzenlenen Deutsche Zoologische Gesellschaft (DZG)’nin 117. Yıllık Toplantısı kapsamında, “Advances in Membrane Physiology” adlı sempozyum içinde yer alan oturumda davetli konuşmacı olarak yer alacak!
Dr. Toprak, konuşmasında böcek membran fizyolojisinde kilit taşıyıcı proteinler olan SERCA ve IP₃R üzerine odaklanacak. Özellikle bu membran proteinlerinin, Colorado patates böceğinde (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) stres biyolojisi ve enerji depolama süreçlerindeki rolünü anlatacak.
MOLEN’de yapılan araştırmalar, bu sistemlerin bozulmasının kalsiyum dengesi, lipid metabolizması, stres toleransı ve hormonal düzen üzerinde önemli etkileri olduğunu ortaya koydu. Ayrıca, omurgalılardaki metabolik sendrom modelleriyle gösterdiği paralellikler sayesinde, çalışma transfer edilebilir yeni araştırma alanlarına ışık tutuyor.

Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak to Deliver Invited Talk at the International Symposium on Membrane Physiology in Berlin
Our Director, Prof. Dr. Umut Toprak, will be an invited speaker at the session within the symposium “Advances in Membrane Physiology”, held on 8 September 2025 as part of the 117th Annual Meeting of the Deutsche Zoologische Gesellschaft (DZG), hosted by Freie Universität Berlin!
In his talk, Dr. Toprak will focus on the key endoplasmic reticulum membrane transport proteins SERCA and IP₃R in insect membrane physiology, with a particular emphasis on their roles in stress biology and energy storage processes in the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata).
Research conducted at MOLEN has shown that disruption of these systems significantly affects calcium homeostasis, lipid metabolism, stress tolerance, and hormonal regulation. Moreover, the striking parallels with metabolic syndrome models in vertebrates highlight the potential of this work to inspire transferable research directions.
