New Springer Book on Insect Lipid Metabolism from Prof. Umut Toprak!

Announcements, News

The Molecular Entomology Laboratory (MOLEN) is proud to announce the forthcoming publication of “Insect Lipid Metabolism” in the prestigious Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology series (Vol. 1494), co-edited by Prof. Umut Toprak (Director of MOLEN, Ankara University) and Prof. Laura Musselman (Binghamton University, USA).

This 21-chapter volume brings together leading experts from around the world to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis of research on insect lipid metabolism — a field with critical importance for both fundamental biology and applied pest management.

The book explores:

  • Structure, classification, and metabolism of insect lipids in key organs such as the midgut, fat body, and cuticle

  • Endocrine and transcriptional regulation of lipid metabolism

  • Functional links between lipid metabolism and calcium homeostasis, carbohydrate metabolism, diapause, reproduction, circadian rhythms, aging, sleep, flight, infection, parasitism, and cold hardening

  • “Omics” approaches to lipid research

  • The role of lipids in insect vectors of disease, pheromone biosynthesis, and plant-feeding strategies

  • Applications of lipid biology as a target for pest control and in using insect models to study human lipid metabolism disorders

Prof. Toprak has also contributed several chapters authored with collaborators, covering lipid metabolism in relation to calcium, lipid metabolism in diapause, and lipid metabolism as a pest control target.
