Umut, Dr. Russell Groves (University of Wisconsin Madison, USA) and Dr. Daniel A. Hahn (University of Florida, USA) will be organizing a hot topic symposium “Cross-roads of Diapause and Metabolism” at the upcoming Annual Joint Meeting of Entomological Society of America and Entomological Society of Canada, that will be held in Vancouver, Canada on November 13-16, 2022!  The symposium aims to bring scientists and students studying diapause and metabolism and will be held as a “section symposium” of the Physiology, Biochemistry, and Toxicology (PBT) Section of ESA. Nine speakers those already agreed to give a talk are :

  1. Umut Toprak, Ankara University, Turkey “Lipid metabolism in diapause”
  2. Russell Groves, University of Wisconsin Madison, USA “Changes in Colorado potato beetle emergence and diapause phenology; linkages to fatty acid composition”
  3. Nicholas Teets, University of Kentuck, USA “Coping with the longest winters in the world: Energetics in an Antarctic insect”
  4. Megan Meuti, Ohio State University, USA Connecting the circadian clock to the hormonal and metabolic pathways underlying mosquito diapause”
  5. Joseph Rinehart, USDA, USA “Title N/A”
  6. Daniel A. Hahn, University of Florida, USA “Title N/A”
  7. Jacqueline Lebenzon, University of California, Berkeley, USA “Mitochondrial homeostasis and metabolic suppression during diapause in the Colorado potato beetle”
  8. Katie Marshall, University of British Columbia, Canada “Glycolytic metabolism in diapause: trade-offs between ATP production and cryoprotectant synthesis”

The complete list of keynote speakers will be announced in the following months.

This year’s theme for the Annual Meeting is “Entomology as Inspiration: Insects through art, science, and culture”. For the updates follow our website and also the official web site of the congress at 2022 Joint Annual Meeting | Entomological Society of America (entsoc.org)
